Hi, I am Ricardo,

An Industrial Designer from the the Netherlands. I have a Bachelor in Engineering and Design and after a few years of working in the industry I am currently pursuing my Masters at Umeå Institute of Design in the direction of Advanced Product Design.

My goal in product design is the emotion and experience between user and product. Designing a desire by picturing myself in the skin of the end-user. Clear design, original solutions and eye for details are important aspects for me as product designer.

A user centered approach is where I feel at home.
I am a real team-player by nature. Flexible, Organized, Calm and a good listener are some words that describe me as a person.

In my free time I am a big Motorsports fan, like to improve current skills and try out new software to broaden my skill set.

Some of my go-to tools:

Sketching - Adobe CC - Solidworks - Keyshot - Workshop

MFA - Advanced Product Design

Umeå Institute of Design - Umeå, Sweden

Industrial Designer (intern)

2018-2019 | 1 Year | San Francisco, USA

During my studies at the Umeå Institute of Design if have used the possibility to take a gap year for internships. I have spend the entire year as an Industrial Designer at Whipsaw Inc. in their San Francisco office.

The fact that this was an internship for a longer period of time gave me more responsibility in projects and the chance to experience different stages in the design process ranging from Research, Ideation, Concept development to client meetings and preparing files for Engineering and appearance model.

This has been a great year with loads of awesome colleagues and meeting many other designers from the Bay Area outside of work.

Product Designer

2017 | 9 Months | Raalte, the Netherlands.

As a designer within Pan Oston I was responsible to create new company portfolio products and customized client proposals. Working closely with the Design manager, Engineering, Sales and Marketing to come up with fitting solutions for a divers range of challenges and design requests.

New generation. Being one of the market leaders in checkouts for several years Pan Oston is not standing still. Seeing the market of paying and checking-out in stores and public locations change they understand it is time to offer a new generation of solutions. As part of the internal BlueFire project team I worked on the design of the new Pan Oston Interactive kiosks line. From first drafts and concept proposals to teaser visualizations for Euroshop 2017 fair and the production of the first prototypes. Reporting to both the company CEO and Design Manager I was given the freedom to generate the new product line from scratch.

The BlueFire kiosk was awarded a Red Dot in 2018.

Scope design and strategy is a design agency which deals with the design and realization of products in a wide range of markets. They deploy design, technology and ergonomics as an instrument to create distinctive brands, products and related services.

At Scope Design is where I started my career in product design. Collaborating with Scope during my Bachelor thesis resulted in a full-time position within the design team.

During my time at Scope I had the possibility to work on a wide range of projects in all branches the studio is active in. I gained a lot of experience and with that also more and more responsibility in projects. From assisting the senior designers in their projects and collaborating during workshops to carrying out projects as internal lead and first contact for clients.
