AUTONOMOUS PLATFORM

Next generation material handling

10 Weeks | Duo | 2018 | Kalmar global

 

The Autonomous Platform is a concept solution for Kalmar Global to keep up with its competitors in the fast growing world of container handling and heavy duty harbor equipment.

Together with Gabriel Uggla we created a modular autonomous platform which functions as the main ingredient for this new business case concept. With this platform as a common factor we created three different machine configurations.

 

PROCESS

Research  >

Field trip to the factory in Poland and Guided tours + interviews in the harbor of Hamburg, Germany

Workshops  >

Digesting all gathered information and sharing our insights with each other to create possible project directions.

Ideas  >

Choosing a product direction and generating possible product solutions.

Concept  >

Settling for a final concept direction, design and developing the product further in CAD.

Making  >

Based on the final CAD design files we created visual product models ("show models") in the workshop.

Presenting

Finalizing the project by presenting our outcome to the client and involved parties.

 

FIELD RESEARCH

 

During our research phase we traveled to Poland to visit the assembly plant of Kalmar. After that we continued our trip to Germany to visit the harbor of Hamburg were we had the change to speak with different stakeholders and see the Kalmar machines in their "natural habitat".

OUR VISION

In the future Kalmar will be a service provider, supplying moves and up-time, instead of selling machines.
